Urge Swarthmore’s Student Government to stand with Israel and the Jewish community (and, yes, hummus) against these continued attacks.

Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) are devising a way to coerce Swarthmore College’s Student Government into voting to discontinue the sale of Sabra Hummus on campus due to it being made within Israel. Their reasoning? Both groups claim Israel is actively oppressing its minority population while wreaking havoc across the Middle East. This absurd antisemitic myth trails countless other attempts by both hate groups to single out Israel, a country roughly the size of New Jersey, for all of the world’s problems.
What these radical organizations fail to mention is that Israel is the only democracy in the region where members of all races, ethnicities and religious backgrounds are provided with equal rights and the opportunity to pursue happiness in one of the most progressive nations on earth. One must look no further than Israel’s current governing body, its most diverse to date, to see how the country remains a beacon of hope amidst a sea of tyranny.
JVP and SJP also conveniently ignore the renowned achievements in innovation Israel continues to share with the world. Ironically, Israel’s contributions in technology are so immense that if their members truly wanted to boycott the country, they would have to give up the very cell phones and laptops they use to spread antisemitic conspiracies on.
Unfortunately, this is not SJP’s first attempt to police hummus consumption at Swarthmore. In 2018, its members failed at an attempt to intimidate the university’s leadership into ridding Sabra from campus. Yet, JVP and SJP remain committed to demonizing our nation’s greatest ally while alienating Jewish students on campus.
Urge Swarthmore’s Student Government to stand with Israel and the Jewish community (and, yes, hummus) against these continued attacks.
